Over-the-counter COVID-19 tests coverage ending

Publish Date

The Tufts Health Plan Medicare Advantage HMO plan coverage for COVID-19 at-home test kits will be ending on December 31, 2022. The health and well-being of our members is a top priority, and we made this decision only after carefully considering several factors, including the state of the COVID pandemic and the fact that members can continue to get over-the-counter COVID-19 tests at no cost through Medicare’s coverage. A letter was recently sent to members explaining the coverage change and how to get free tests through Medicare.

How to get free COVID-19 at-home tests through Medicare
Medicare covers up to eight over-the-counter COVID-19 tests each calendar month, at no cost. This coverage continues until the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE), currently scheduled for January 11, 2023, and is available to anyone with Medicare Part B, including those enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan.
Members can get the Medicare-covered, over-the-counter COVID-19 tests at any pharmacy or health care provider that participates in this initiative by showing their red, white, and blue Medicare card.
